Hoeven Announces $10.5 Million In USDA Assistance For Rural Communities
BISMARCK, N.D. - Governor John Hoeven today announced that the state will receive $10.5 million in loans and grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to build and upgrade clean drinking water facilities in four rural North Dakota communities. The projects are being funded under the new farm bill, the Farm Security and Rural Investment Act of 2002.
“We worked hard with the White House, the USDA and Congress for a new farm bill earlier this year because projects like these are so critically important to North Dakota’s rural communities,” Hoeven said. “The bill was about putting a safety net under our farmers, and it was also about invigorating our rural towns and cities.”
The loans and grant will help fund four North Dakota water projects:
| Loan | Grant | Total | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ashley | $1,580,820 | $808,620 | $2,389,440 |
| Forman | $1,425,000 | $1,575,000 | $3,000,000 |
| Harvey | $2,292,300 | $842,000 | $3,134,300 |
| New Town | $1,100,020 | $900,090 | $2,000,110 |
“A strong infrastructure is essential to the economic health of our rural areas,” Hoeven said. “Clean water, reliable energy and good roads are the foundation for rural economic development and the exceptional quality of life we enjoy in North Dakota.”
