Hoeven Names John Q. Paulsen To State Board Of Higher Education
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today named John Q. Paulsen of Fargo to the State Board of Higher Education. Paulsen replaces Chuck Stroup whose term expires June 30.
“John brings a wealth of business and civic experience to the Board,” Hoeven said. “His years of public and private service, and his leadership in the community will be valuable in addressing the needs and fulfilling the objectives of the Board.”
Paulsen served as executive vice president of MeritCare Medical Group in Fargo. He is currently chair of the City of Fargo Planning Commission and the board of directors for the Plains Art Museum. He is also the immediate past chair of the Prairie Public Broadcasting Company and a member of the Family Healthcare Center Board of Directors.
Throughout his career, Paulsen has dedicated much of his time to public service, especially education. He served on the Fargo Board of Education for nine years and has been involved with several organizations committed to education and learning, including the Fargo Public Library.
“Nothing is more important to the people of North Dakota than our young people, and no responsibility is greater than providing them with the best educational opportunities we can,” Paulsen said. “I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues on the State Board of Higher Education and throughout the North Dakota University System in pursuit of those goals.”
The nine-member State Board of Higher Education is the policy-setting body for the North Dakota University System. The Board consists of seven citizen members appointed by the governor for four-year terms, one student appointed by the governor for a one-year term, and one faculty advisor selected by the Council of College Faculties.
