Hoeven Announces More Than $1.3 Million In Homeless Grants
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today announced that 11 North Dakota organizations and six communities will receive more than $1.3 million in Continuum of Care grants to assist the homeless.
The grants will fund transitional and permanent supportive housing projects in Fargo, Grand Forks, Bismarck, Dickinson, Williston and Devils Lake that provide homeless persons and families with options for attaining a permanent home and self-sufficiency. The agencies receiving Continuum of Care funding provide supportive housing for people with disabilities, victims of domestic violence, children and other individuals.
“These grants help provide a vital safety net for North Dakotans who struggle with homelessness, poverty, disabilities or abuse,” Hoeven said. “We are working to build an economy that provides opportunities that pull every able North Dakotan out of poverty and homelessness into independence and self sufficiency.”
The North Dakota Continuum of Care Plan is a long-term, comprehensive planning and development initiative that identifies and addresses the causes of homelessness and the needs of the homeless in the state. The North Dakota Coalition of Homeless People is the lead entity overseeing the development and implementation of the plan, with assistance from several organizations statewide.
