Hoeven: DMI Industries Expansion Signals Growth Of Wind Power Industry In ND
Governor Congratulates Company Officials

BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today commended DMI Industries for its announced expansion and said it signifies healthy growth in the wind power industry, both in North Dakota and across the nation. The expansion represents a 40 percent increase in production capacity at the company's West Fargo facility.

DMI Industries earlier today announced it would expand its West Fargo facility in response to heightened demand in the 2009-2010 production seasons. The move means a $30 million investment, largely in West Fargo, and more jobs in both the company's Tulsa, Okla. plant and its North Dakota facility.

"Once the expansion is completed, DMI Industries will be the largest manufacturer of wind towers in North America," Hoeven said. "This new facility will add employment in West Fargo, and help DMI provide more towers for North Dakota's growing wind industry, as well as for the industry throughout the country. Congratulations to all who worked to make this happen."

The state of North Dakota has worked to stimulate growth in the industry through a series of finance and tax incentives, including a property tax reduction for wind generation units from 3 percent to 1.5 percent of assessed value. Other measures include a sales and use tax exemption on the purchase of building materials, production equipment, and other personal property used in the construction of wind-powered electrical generating facilities, and a 15 percent investment tax credit, over five years, for the installation of a wind energy facility.

North Dakota's wind energy production has increased from less than one half a megawatt a few years ago, to more than 1500 megawatts built or in development today.
