Hoeven Calls Upon North Dakotans To Observe Flag Day
BISMARCK, N.D. – In accordance with a proclamation signed by President George W. Bush, Governor John Hoeven has called upon North Dakotans to observe Flag Day, Saturday, June 14, by displaying the American flag and honoring those who defend the freedoms for which it stands.
The Governor’s proclamation directs the appropriate officials to display the American flag on all government buildings at full staff throughout the day and encourages citizens to fly the Stars and Stripes from their homes and other suitable places.
“Since the first days of our Republic, Americans have flown the flag to show their pride and appreciation for the freedoms they enjoy – freedoms protected by those whose courage and sacrifice inspire us all,” Hoeven said. “By displaying and respecting the flag, we honor our great country and the brave men and women in uniform who have served and sacrificed to protect our liberties, from the early patriots of the Continental Army to the courageous Americans who are defending our nation around the world today.”
Hoeven also called upon North Dakotans to observe the days from Flag Day through Independence Day as a time to honor America, to celebrate our rich heritage and to express our gratitude to those who have secured our freedoms throughout our nation’s history and those who defend them still today.
