BISMARCK, N.D. – Gov. Kelly Armstrong today appointed Minot attorney Christene Reierson to an open judgeship in the North Central Judicial District, effective Nov. 16.
Reierson has owned and operated Reierson Law Office P.C. in Minot as a solo practitioner since 2015, representing clients on a variety of matters including family law, criminal, probate, civil litigation, business formation, real estate transactions and estate planning, as well as appellate matters. She previously served as an assistant state’s attorney for Ward County from 2009 to 2015, reviewing police reports for charging decisions, representing the state in jury trials and motion hearings, preparing appellate briefs, and participating in oral arguments before the North Dakota Supreme Court. She completed law clerkships in North Dakota and Minnesota from 2006 to 2009.
Born in Fargo, Reierson earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from North Dakota State University and her law degree from the University of North Dakota School of Law in Grand Forks in 2007. She is a member of the North Dakota and Ward County bar associations and has participated in the North Central Judicial District Treatment Court as both a prosecutor’s office representative from 2010-2015 and volunteer defense attorney since 2016. She was appointed to the Disciplinary Board of the North Dakota Supreme Court in January.
The North Central Judicial District vacancy was created by the July 17 retirement of Judge Todd Cresap, who was appointed to the judgeship in 2009 by then-Gov. John Hoeven and subsequently elected to the position in 2012 and reelected in 2016 and 2022. Two attorneys were named as finalists for the judgeship, which is chambered in Minot. The North Central Judicial District covers Burke, Mountrail and Ward counties.
