BISMARCK, N.D. – Gov. Doug Burgum today issued the following statement after President Donald Trump nominated Devils Lake attorney Daniel Traynor to serve as a U.S. District Court judge for North Dakota.

“Dan Traynor is a highly capable attorney with over 20 years of legal experience in a variety of settings,” said Burgum, who appointed Traynor to the State Board of Higher Education last year. “We congratulate him and urge the U.S. Senate to confirm his nomination.”

Traynor is a 1997 graduate of the University of North Dakota School of Law and a current shareholder at the Traynor Law Firm in Devils Lake, where his practice focuses on insurance defense, personal injury and business litigation. He formerly chaired the Disciplinary Board of the North Dakota Supreme Court and also served as a law clerk to Chief Justice Gerald VandeWalle.

If confirmed, Traynor will fill the vacancy created by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Daniel Hovland’s decision to take senior status this year.
