WATFORD CITY, N.D. – The 2024 Main Street ND Summit kicked off its first full day with a keynote address from Gov. Doug Burgum, setting an enthusiastic tone for the 2½-day event. In his opening remarks, Burgum welcomed nearly 500 community leaders, business owners, city planners and economic development professionals who gathered to explore the theme of “Regional Prosperity.”

Gov. Doug Burgum has issued an executive order clarifying the membership, role and terms of the Olmstead Commission, whose goal is to move North Dakota forward toward greater integration and inclusion for persons with disabilities with respect to community services and supports, employment, education, health care, housing and transportation.

Gov. Doug Burgum released a statement regarding the passing of state Rep. Randy Schobinger of Minot, who died Tuesday, Aug. 13, at age 54 at his home in Delano, Tenn. Schobinger served in the North Dakota Senate from 1994 to 2006 and in the state House of Representatives from 2016 to 2024. He announced in January that he would not seek re-election.

Gov. Doug Burgum has issued an executive order declaring a summer storm disaster in central North Dakota following severe weather that caused significant flood-related damages to the region. The declaration comes in response to greater than average precipitation levels recorded in June and July, leading to extensive damage to both gravel and paved roadways.

Gov. Doug Burgum presented NASA astronaut James Buchli with the North Dakota Theodore Roosevelt Rough Rider Award, the state’s highest commendation for its citizens, highlighting his significant impact on aerospace and his trailblazing career as the first North Dakotan to fly in space.
