BISMARCK, N.D. – Gov. Doug Burgum today announced the nationally recognized speakers who are participating in the first Governor’s Summit on Innovative Education in Bismarck on June 8 at Legacy High School.
- Ted Dintersmith – Author, documentary filmmaker and venture capitalist
- Susie Wise – Founder and Director of the K12 Lab Network at Stanford University
- Ken Kay – Author and Chief Executive Officer of EdLeader21
- Marcus Lingenfelter – Senior Vice President of Advancement for the National Math and Science Initiative
“Creating a clear path and connection between our education system, workforce development and exciting career opportunities is critical to preparing North Dakota students for the 21st century economy,” said Burgum. “Ted, Susie, Ken and Marcus are leaders in reimagining education to set students up for success in a world that is changing rapidly. This Summit will build on the innovative ideas taking place in ND classrooms, and create a dialogue for sharing best practices that will yield tangible results for our students.”

Ted Dintersmith is a leading expert on innovation, and advocate for creating a school system that prepares students for life, not standardized tests. He is the author of “Most Likely to Succeed: Preparing Our Kids for the Innovation Era,” as well as the executive producer for the Sundance-acclaimed documentary Most Likely To Succeed, airing May 31 at 7 p.m. on Prairie Public Television. Susie Wise is the Founder and Director of the K12 Lab Network at the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design at Stanford University. She founded the K12 Lab in 2007 to investigate the role that design thinking could play in the education sector. Susie’s work also led to development of School Retool, a fellowship for school leaders, now operating in 14 cities, and the Shadow a Student Challenge, launched in 2016 with more than 3,500 school leaders participating.
Ken Kay is the Chief Executive Officer of EdLeader21, a professional learning community for education leaders committed to 21st century education. Ken also served as executive director of the CEO Forum on Education and Technology, prior to co-founding the Partnership for 21st Century Skills in 2002. Along with Valerie Greenhill, he authored “The Leader’s Guide to 21st Century Education: 7 Steps for Schools and Districts.”
Marcus Lingenfelter serves as Senior Vice President of Advancement for the National Math and Science Initiative, a non-profit established to dramatically improve math and science educational outcomes for the country. In this capacity, Marcus facilitates expansion of NMSI’s programs, currently operating in 40 states and the District of Columbia.
