Gov. Doug Burgum today directed all government agencies to fly the POW/MIA flag in observance of POW/MIA Recognition Day.

“We will never forget the heroes who have gone missing in action, been held prisoner or undergone unimaginable hardships while serving their country. We honor their sacred commitment to this great nation, where we celebrate many freedoms thanks to the service and sacrifice of all of the men and women in the Armed Services. We stand with the families who bear the burden of a loved one who was killed, held prisoner or remains missing, and pay tribute to the ultimate sacrifice made by thousands of men and women throughout the generations whose legacy we will never forget.”

Gov. Burgum also issued a Proclamation declaring Sept. 15 POW/MIA Recognition Day and urged North Dakota’s citizens to observe this day by participating in events and ceremonies in their local communities.
